The breast is the main focus of breast surgery, which involves diagnosing and treating breast cancer as well as benign breast diseases. In addition to these services, we also offer a hereditary breast cancer clinic and a high-risk group prevention clinic, where we emphasize regular breast cancer screening programs.

Breast cancer is the most prevalent cancer among women not only in Korea but also in the United States and Western countries. Its incidence is increasing every year due to the adoption of westernized lifestyle patterns in Korea and a change in awareness regarding early breast cancer screening. To address this growing concern, the Department of Breast Surgery at Seoul National University Hospital established a breast care center in 2004. This center aims to provide specialized and systematic diagnosis and treatment for patients with various breast diseases, including breast cancer.

As of 2023, the Department of Breast Surgery at Seoul National University Hospital consists of four professors, one clinical professor, and five full-time doctors. Alongside patient care, our team is dedicated to conducting basic and clinical research and engaging in educational activities. We collaborate with breast specialists and research nurses to ensure comprehensive care for our patients.

Endocrine Surgery is a specialized field of surgery that provides surgical treatment for various diseases such as tumors and hormonal/metabolic abnormalities, occurring in the endocrine organs (thyroid, parathyroid, and adrenal glands).

In 2004, Bilateral Axillo-Breast Approach (BABA) endoscopic thyroid surgery, which does not leave the scar in the neck, was first developed around the world by the division of Endocrine Surgery at the Seoul National University Hospital (SNUH). Since 2008, BABA robotic thyroid surgery has been implemented using surgical robotic system. BABA robotic thyroid surgery has been proven to have surgical safety, oncological completeness, and excellent cosmetic results by enabling meticulous thyroid surgery with magnified view of surgical fields. As a result, BABA robotic thyroid surgery has been recognized as a standard method of oncoplastic thyroid surgery worldwide. The Division of Endocrine Surgery at SUNH have various experiences of performing more than 2,000 robotic surgery in a single institution in 2019.

The Division of Endocrine Surgery at SUNH published excellent researches including randomized clinical trials of laparoscopic adrenalectomy and BABA endoscopic/robotic thyroid surgery. Since 2008, the Division of Endocrine Surgery at SUNH has established "BioBank", and has been actively conducting researches to find the cause of thyroid cancer by performing genomic analysis and GWAS analysis. The Division of Endocrine Surgery at SUNH has published researches in world-class academic journals in the field of surgical techniques and basic researches.

In addition, the Division of Endocrine Surgery at SUNH has started "Clinics for Genetic Disorders of the Endocrine Organs" to provide the appropriate information to patients and their families and provide qualified medical services including diagnosis, treatment, and genetic counseling. "Beyond Thyroid Cancer", education program, was opened in 2006, and more than 700 courses have been conducted for patients and the general public so far. As of 2020, the Division of Endocrine Surgery at SNUH consists of 3 professors, 1 fellowship physician, and 2 physician assistants. The Division of Endocrine Surgery at SUNH is dedicated to patient care, basic/clinical research and education.
