Pediatric Surgery is a subspecialty of surgical department that performs surgical treatment, basic and clinical research on a variety of diseases in children, including newborns. The main diseases covered in pediatric surgery include congenital diseases such as anorectal malformation, Hirschsprung disease, benign diseases with high frequency such as inguinal hernia, thyroglossal duct cyst, malignant tumors such as neuroblastoma, and neonatal emergency diseases.

The devision of Pediatric Surgery, Seoul National University Hospital has performed more than 1,400 surgeries annually since its inception in May 15, 1978, as the first independent sub-specialty field in Korea. More than half of the operations are performed as minimally invasive surgery such as laparoscopy, thoracoscopy and robotics.

We invite pediatric surgeons from various countries such as Myanmar, Mongolia, Laos, Vietnam, and Uzbekistan every year for surgical education. In particular, since 2016, we have visited Yangon Children's Hospital in Myanmar in cooperation with the International Medical Center every year to teach minimally invasive surgical methods, and are participating in KOICA-led Uzbekistan Children's Hospital project in 2020.

As of 2023, one professor, one clinical associate professor, two clinical assistant professors work as the full-time staff for the Pediatric Surgery Division, and have educated 19 fellows over the past 42 years. Pediatric Surgery Division in Seoul National University Hospital is committed to patient care, as well as basic, clinical research and student education.
