Welcome to the Department of Surgery at Seoul National University, a leading center of surgical excellence, research, and education. Established in 1946, we have built a legacy over the past 76 years, tirelessly driving the evolution of surgical care in Korea and beyond. Our services extend from the Seoul National University Hospital to the Bundang Hospital, Boramae Hospital, Gangnam Center, and even the Sheikh Khalifa Hospital in the United Arab Emirates.

Our faculty boasts 25 full professors, 39 clinical professors, 13 assistant clinical professors, 32 clinical instructors, and 55 residents, all of whom play a crucial role in our mission to advance human health by overcoming surgical diseases. Our team is composed of six specialist divisions - gastro-intestinal, colorectal, hepato-biliary-pancreas, breast-endocrine, vascular-transplantation, and pediatric surgery - delivering world-class clinical care. We perform over 6,000 surgeries and cater to more than 80,000 patients annually at our outpatient clinic.

Beyond our primary facilities, we operate a branch at the Seoul National University Bundang Hospital and maintain an affiliation with the Seoul Municipal Boramae Hospital. Our trainees receive a comprehensive, hands-on experience through rotations between these hospitals, embodying our commitment to a robust, experiential learning environment.

At Seoul National University, we value education as much as patient care. We offer structured programs designed to equip both undergraduate and postgraduate students with extensive knowledge and practical skills in the field of surgery. Our department hosts ten weekly conferences to foster an exchange of the most up-to-date medical knowledge and to support our educational endeavors.

Our faculty members also undertake a broad array of research projects, encompassing cellular and molecular biology studies, clinical trials, and investigations into hereditary diseases. Annually, they contribute to over 50 publications in globally recognized journals.
